Randa Salloum, Artist and Blogger (Part I)
Randa Salloum is the artist behind the fabulous fashion inspired metallic art of I See Noise Prints and the face behind the style blog, The-Unprecedented. As for the story behind Randa’s creative journey….
Randa Salloum was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia and is currently working on her art and blog full time. Randa graduated in 2009 in the Fashion Marketing and Management program at The Art Institute of Vancouver, carrying over seven years of experience in the fashion industry in various roles such as; Personal Stylist, Stylist Assistant, Production Manager, Backstage Coordinator, Visual Merchandiser & Retail Management.
During her career in the fashion industry Randa started her blog as an online portfolio but it quickly turned into a day to day fashion and lifestyle blog and then one day she decided to pick up that paint brush just one more time…. through experimentation and the idea of using creative materials, her paintings turned into digitally re-mastered mixed media prints in metallic gold and silver.
With that said… HOTR presents to you a view behind the scenes of this fabulous artist and style blogger…. an exclusive and first time look into Randa’s first home………..so exciting!
(so honored to be a part of this big moment in your life, Randa!)
You know you are home when….
The minute I walk through the door with the biggest smile on my face! I love my apartment so much. I’ve taken the time to really make this place a home with the décor, the scent, the over all feeling of it. It’ really important to put some TLC into your space even if it’s one you won’t be around for long in.
Which room at home is your favorite? Why?
No matter where I have lived, my bedroom has always been my favourite. Especially in my home now. It’s such a relaxing and cozy place to be. I do quite a bit of my work from my bedroom because of how open of a space it is. The main wall in my room is floor to ceiling windows with double doors that open to a balcony. I love peering out into the downtown of Vancouver while I work, it keeps me motivated.
What has been your biggest splurge for your home?
My couch has been my biggest splurge, for sure. My parents kept telling me to never purchase a couch from Ikea because if you’re spending the money, really spend the money and have something that will last you 10-15 years…. not 10-15 months! They were right. You can really tell the difference between the quality ofa cheaper couch and one that you have spent some good money on. My couch was custom made and it’s the focal point of my home – I just adore it!
How would you describe your decorating style?
In a nutshell, it’s my Pinterest boards on crack! I like a lot of clean lines, open spaces and the base shades of white, black and grey. Within those three shades I’ll incorporate my color in the form of a Persian rug or the colorful images within the black frames. Not to mention, always gold and silver accents.
Who is your interior design icon?
I wouldn’t say that I have an icon, in fact I don’t pay attention to any interior designers. I spend a lot of time on Pinterest and take designing cues from there. I grew up with my mom being very detailed and focus when it came to the décor of our home so I think as I grew up, I’ve mimicked what she’s done.
How would you describe your fashion style?
My fashion style is exactly like my decorating style. If you walk into my closet it will look just like my home in terms of colors and shades. My style is based on basics like jeans and tees but with some decorative items thrown into the mix to spice up a basic look. I wear a lot of black, white, grey and neutrals but like to add in some color and a hint of gold and silver.
Who is your fashion icon?
Without a doubt it would be Victoria Beckham. We don’t necessarily have the same style but the way she puts herself together and carries herself is something I’ve looked up to since I was about 6 or 7 years old. She’s turned herself from a pop star to one of Fashion’s most iconic moguls and for that I commend her.
Which fashion designer do you wish had a home décor collection?
Ooh great question… I would definitely go with Alexander Wang. That line would be soooo amazing. Edgy, modern but super chic.
Stay tuned for behind the doors of Randa’s creative world and office…tomorrow!
