Stephanie Jenkins (a self-proclaimed accessory addict!) founder of Styled by NOIR, has always been a lover of all things fashion. After starting her career in retail buying and merchandising, Stephanie quickly discovered her knack for styling. Initially pursuing a career in fashion public relations (working with brands like shopbop.com, bebe, Ruthie Davis and VANS!)— she cultivated an eye for the seasons must have pieces. Working with editors at some of the worlds most prestigious magazines, Stephanie realized she wanted to venture into the more creative side of fashion. Combining her love for buying, styling and marketing, Stephanie developed the shop-able blog Styled by NOIR, where she creates accessorized looks by curating the must-have items of the moment.
Who is your fashion icon?
Effortless chic is my favorite style and there are so many ladies who do it so well! Some of my go-to inspirations are Kate Moss, Jessica Alba, Kate Beckinsale, Rachel Zoe and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Which fashion designer do you wish had a home décor collection?
Jimmy Choo! They are the ultimate glam chic to me. With mixed mediums, great use of metallics and glitzy embellishments, I would love to see that made into a dining room table and chairs.
Where do you find inspiration?
As a former fashion publicist, I have always been an editorial addict. I read ELLE, W and Harper’s Bazaar cover to cover every month. They have the best curating to always inspire me. Other than that, I am like every girl and could get lost for hours on Pinterest or my favorite style blogs.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Downtown classic with a touch of glamour and a little bohemian flare. I am a quintessential LA girl during the summer with my bohemian maxi dresses and arms full of brass cuffs, and get a bit more structured with fall and winter turning to my east coast inspiration of walking the cold streets layered up with scarves and gloves. With any look, I add flare with textures and shiny things. No matter the season though, most of my clothes are in neutral hues and my accessories make the outfit.
How do you incorporate fashion beyond your wardrobe?
My home decor (and office!) all revolves around fashion. I always swear that I will not buy another fashion coffee table book, and then somehow end up with 10 on my Amazon wish-list. I have vintage magazine covers framed on my walls and use my shoes to decorate my bookshelves… Fashion is art to me, so displaying my jewelry or shoes is like displaying art, right?
Do you have any interior styling secrets?
Buy one thing at a time. People sometimes make the mistake of wanting to furnish an entire room in one shopping trip, which overwhelms them. First buy the couch, then decide if you need a rug, then think to add on the side table, and so on. I only buy pieces that I can not live without, which makes for a a total finished product over time that I know I absolutely love. Buying home decor is similar to buying fashion- if you can’t live without it, get it! If you are not dying over it- wait, and if you are still thinking about it a few days later, revisit it.
What is your favorite city away from home?
Paris and New York. I spent a week in Paris with a couple friends and would have stayed SO much longer if I could have. The parisian lifestyle and fashion really spoke to me. I have also been very lucky to have a career that takes me to New York often. Being raised in LA, you would think I would hate the cold of the east coast, but I am the opposite. Bring on the fall and winter as long as I get the scarves, over-the-knee boots and gloves that go with it! I wish LA had actual seasons.
If you could swap homes with anyone it would be…
One of my friends is an amazing interior designer and she recently redid a Malibu home- my first reaction was “can I just live there”? Http://www.arielfoxdesign.com/malibu-residence.html And… I don’t know anyone (me included) who doesn’t want to live in Carrie & Big’s NY penthouse.
Do you have a signature candle scent?
Crisp Champagne by Voluspa.
What are you currently coveting for your home?
More fashion coffee table books (of course). I always want fresh flowers in my home, and my next project will be a fun bar cart – just in time for holiday entertaining.
Which fashion accessory would you use as a decorating accessory?
SHOES! Shoes are little works of art and look great as book ends.
How do you incorporate new fashion trends into your home’s décor each season?
I swap out the images on my inspiration boards each month to help me get inspiration for my outfits. I am also always switching out the fashion prints in my office. Just like an outfit, I need a switch up my surroundings each season.
